HSK preparation courses

We are an official HSK test centre and currently run the following tailor-made preparation courses.

For the Spring 2021 term, all HSK courses will finish in time for the June home-based HSK exams. 

Read the course descriptions carefully and choose the right level for you before filling out the enrolment form.

HSK Level 3 Preparation Course 

Course dates: 13 April - 27 May 2021, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 - 7.30pm

Pre-requisite: Students should have passed HSK Level 2; and have completed at least 90 hours Mandarin learning, including 60% of the HSK 3 content learning and be keen to further improve their Chinese proficiency level.

Fees: £168 

Course description: This course will cover an introduction to the HSK exam structure, HSK 3 vocabulary lists, a range of topics covered in HSK 3, as well as grammar and sentence structure. The tutor will work through several past exam papers with the students in order to improve their exam confidence alongside their listening, reading and writing skills. Textbook recommendation (the teacher will use some part of it) HSK 3 standard course. Beijing Language and Culture University Press.

Learning outcomes: Recognise 600 words in Chinese, understand 20 grammar structures, master 17 daily conversation topics and be well prepared to take the HSK 3 examination.

HSK Level 4 Preparation Course

Course dates: 13 April - 27 May 2021, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 - 7.30pm

Pre-requisite: Students should have passed HSK 3 and have completed at least 200 hours of Mandarin learning including 70% of HSK 4 content learning. Alternatively, students should have completed the Comprehensive courses level 6 and be keen to further improve their Chinese proficiency level and pass the HSK 4 Exam. 

Fees: £168 

Course description: This 7-week intensive course will focus on introducing the HSK exam structure, exam techniques and skills, revision of HSK 4 vocabulary lists as well as focussing on carefully selected key grammar and sentence structure. The tutor will work through several past exam papers with students both in and outside of the classroom with a focus on improving exam confidence alongside listening, reading and writing skills. 

Learning outcomes: Recognise 1200 words in Chinese, understand 40 grammar structures, be able to interpret inferred information, recognise synonyms and antonyms and be well prepared to take the HSK 4 examination. 

HSK Level 5 Preparation Course 

Course dates: Unfortunately we are unable to offer level 5 courses at this time.

Pre-requisite: Students should have passed HSK Level 4; and have completed 340 hours of Mandarin learning in total including at least 60 hours of the Advanced Chinese course at HSK 5 Level. Students can also have the equivalent learning experience and be keen to further improve their Chinese proficiency level. 

Fees: £320 

Course description: This course will cover an introduction to the HSK exam structure, HSK 5 vocabulary lists (mainly revision), a range of topics covered in the HSK 5 exam as well as key grammar and sentence structures. The tutor will work through several past exam papers with students in order to improve their exam confidence alongside their listening, reading and writing skills. Textbook recommendation (the teacher will use some part of it) HSK 5 standard course (2 volumes). Beijing Language and Culture University Press.

Learning outcome: To recognise 2500 words, understand 32 grammar structures, be able to interpret inferred information, recognise synonyms and antonyms and be well prepared to take the HSK 5 examination.

We advise that if you are new to most HSK 5 content that you take the Advanced Mandarin (HSK 4-5) course first to prepare you for the basics of the HSK 5 exam.
