Stride forward – CI building on the success of the decade
8 September 2016
Earlier this month, the Confucius Institute moved into the newly refurbished office at 180 Waterloo Place, ready for the new academic year.
All our students and friends are welcome to visit us in the coming months and why not come for a session in the taster week of 3-7 October. The building will be officially opened by Dr Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director of Hanban and Professor Keith Brown, Vice President, University of Manchester and Chair of CI Board on 21 September.
We are excited to share the news that we are awarded the Model Confucius Institute this year and the award ceremony will take place in December in China. We are the 4th Model CI in the UK, following Confucius Institute for Scotland (University of Edinburgh), Nottingham Confucius Institute (University of Nottingham) and the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine at LSBU.
The institute will expand and strengthen its services to include academic collaboration with Chinese universities, hosting high profile visitors, supporting Chinese students and improving their experience on campus academically, socially and culturally. The University’s commitment to China and its increasing collaboration with Chinese universities will be highlighted in the September visit by President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell as part of the UK delegation with Jo Johnson, Minister for Universities and Science.
