Course description:
The learning material is based on the textbook, Chinese in Steps Volume 2 (edited by George X Zhang, Cypress Book Co. UK Ltd. 2005). Focusing on the training of Chinese speaking and listening, the tutor will also help the learners to write and acquire some basic Chinese characters. There will be sufficient drills practice and interactive language exercises in an enjoyable way during each session.
This course runs twice a week, 2 hours per session. Learners are expected to complete Chinese in Steps Volume 3 at the end of this course.
Learning outcomes:
After the completion of this course, learners are expected to grasp 840 Chinese characters, 1000 basic vocabulary and 70 basic structures at least. For example, learners are able to conduct some basic conversations in Chinese. They are hoped to grasp more expressions of tenses and deeper functions of Chinese such as expressing comparison, an action with result, usage of potential compliment and and the passive construction.
