Students who have successfully completed 8002 or have learned Chinese for 80 hours
Duration: 10 weeks from 5 October to 10 December 2009
Taking place: Mondays and Thursdays, 6 - 8pm

Course description:
This course teaches the skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing in Mandarin Chinese. The course focuses on the structures and functions of some basic expressions, and the relationship between characters and words. The topics are concerning daily and leisure activities, campus and professional life.
This course covers Lessons 25 to 36 of Confidence Chinese Vol. 1 and Lessons of 13 to 20 of Conversational Chinese 301 Vol. I.
Learning outcomes:
On successful completion of this course unit, students will be able to:
- Grasp 500 Chinese words and use them with a degree of proficiency, and have a reading vocabulary of about 300 frequently used characters
- Understand basic language materials about daily life and catch specific information about numbers, times, locations etc. mentioned in conversation
- Speak with a degree of fluency which will satisfy one's basic requirement in studying and travelling to China
- Write down basic information closely related to personal and daily life
