Course description:
This course is suitable for beginners who have no Chinese learning experience before, but are keen to develop some basic conversations in Chinese and would like to have fun in understanding some basic Chinese characters.
The learning material is based on the textbook, Chinese in Steps Volume 1 (edited by George X Zhang, Cypress Book Co. UK Ltd. 2005). Focusing on the training of Chinese speaking and listening, the tutor will also help the learners to write and acquire some basic Chinese characters. There will be sufficient drills practice and interactive language exercises in an enjoyable way during each session.
This course runs twice a week, 2 hours per session. Learners are expected to complete Chinese in Steps Volume 1 at the end of this course.
Learning outcomes:
After the completion of this course, learners are expected to grasp 210 Chinese characters, 250 basic vocabulary and 30 basic structures at least. For example, learners are able to conduct some basic conversations in Chinese. They are hoped to grasp the basic functions of Chinese such as in daily greetings, self-introduction, and inquiry about time, ordering dishes in restaurant, expressing weather and asking the way.
