Advance Chinese (Course code 8008)
Pre-requisite:
It is geared towards these learners who have completed the intermediate Chinese course provided by our Confucius Institute. Advance Chinese is also suitable for those who have had 6-month intensive Mandarin learning in China or for learners who have similar learning experience and are keen to further improve their Chinese proficiency level.

Course description:
This course is characterised with tailor-made learning materials. The tutor will discuss the choice of the learning topics along with the learners in order to better meet the learners’ needs.
This course will consist of a wide choice of topics such as updated news, Chinese culture, Chinese social life, Chinese history, health and well-being. Learners’ overseas experience in China, whether it be living in, working in or sightseeing within China will also be considered. The learners are welcomed to contribute their ideas during the operation of the course. Moreover, since all of the topics are co-chosen by the learners and developed by the tutor, the learners should find each lesson both practical and interesting. The recognition of Chinese characters and brief writing skills will be highlighted along with regular training of speaking and listening skills.
This course will run 2 hours each week and each time it is topic-based.
Course materials will be provided by the Institute.
Learning Outcomes:
After the completion of this course, the learners are expected to achieve certain goals in the following aspects.
- Listening: Learners are expected to comprehend brief daily conversations.
- Speaking: Learners are expected to make a 200-word oral presentation.
- Reading: Learners are expected to read a 300-word passage in Chinese.
- Writing: Learners are expected to write a 150-200 word passage with a theme.
