Confucius Institute

Partnership

The Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester is a partnership between the University, the Office of Chinese Language Council International and Beijing Normal University.

The Office of Chinese Language Council International (OCLCI), established in 1987, oversees the promotion of Chinese language throughout the world. OCLCI aims to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese people and the rest of the world, promoting economic and trade cooperation as well as scientific, technological and cultural exchanges. It has set up more than 180 Confucius Institutes around the world so far. The office is overseen by a board consisting of representatives from 11 ministerial departments, led by the Ministry of Education, and with an advisory board composed of distinguished educators, business and civic leaders around the world.

Beijing Normal University, the first teacher training university in China, is a leading comprehensive university with more than one hundred years' history of educational excellence. The university's motto ‘studying to teach and acting to example' has cultivated among its students, graduates and members of staff a fine tradition of progress, honesty, innovation, truth-seeking. Beijing Normal University has become an important educational and research base for multi-disciplinary and advanced scientific studies
