During my work experience at Oasis, I was fortunate enough to have experienced both teaching and supporting work, which has provided me with more insight into the different types of roles and responsibilities that I could perform as a teacher. In our school all the students and teachers were very nice to me. They were very open and happy for me to contribute as much as I wanted to, and were open to any suggestions and ideas. This instantly made me feel comfortable and part of the team.

In terms of normal lessons, I taught from Y4 to Y6 for one lesson every week for 50 minutes. We have learned some basic sentences and conversations to know more spoken Chinese, such as weather, family, food, body parts etc. At the end of every term we had a contest as the final lesson to summarize what we have learned and the children did really well. During the afterschool club I introduced Chinese paper-folding and cutting, which were the most favourite in our school. At the beginning we learned something easy to make, like a dog and a butterfly. Then we tried to design one by ourselves.

On November 19 2016, Justine Greening MP the Right Honourable, Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equality visited us to discuss and experience the work of our school. As an important part, Justine Greening listened to our Chinese lesson and talked to me about my lesson and teaching plans. On the 14th February 2017, our children attended the Chinese New Year Celebration Gala at the Royal Northern College of Music. We contributed to this fantastic show with Chinese fan dancing, a traditional Chinese custom.

Overall, my work experience in Oasis was very positive and I was very happy with the amount of things that I have learned. I am very grateful that I have had these brilliant students and a fabulous time at Oasis.
