Confucius Classrooms are a basic Chinese language teaching unit at a primary school or at a secondary school supervised by a Confucius Institute or directly by Hanban. The Confucius Institute Manchester currently works with three Confucius Classrooms (Halifax, Withington and Manchester). There has been some change in policy and process in considering and approving future CCs, but despite that, the Confucius Institute has other means to support your school in your Chinese language teaching.

A key criterion for future CC applications is the location of the school. If there is a Confucius Classroom nearby, a certain speciality has to be demonstrated in order to succeed with the application. Hanban also assesses the track record in student numbers as well as a variety and specialties of courses. All documents need to be prepared in English and Chinese.

From 2016, Hanban will operate a quota of 60 new CCs per annum across the world, which is a departure from past where there is no quota and as a result it experiences huge expansion. In the UK alone, there are over 120 CCs.

Do get in touch if you would like further information on introducing Chinese language at your school, need help with the CC application or would like support with the appointment of a Mandarin language teacher.
