Our new 'China Day' experience

25 June 2015

Chinese Legends and Chinese Playground Games – our new 'China Day' experience.

The 'China Day' experience is an important part of the Confucius Institute's language learning programme in schools.

Since 2009, we have seen a huge success in the workshops covering mandarin tasters, folk dance, music, Chinese food, martial arts, calligraphy, brush painting and paper cutting. More than 150 schools in Greater Manchester have used our services since then and see them as a perfect way to celebrate culture enrichment week or a diversity day.

In secondary schools we can also tailor-make a cross-curriculum lesson or project with other subjects such as PE, Art or Math. As the new modern languages national curriculum requires integrating literature into Key Stage Three Language lesson, we recently developed workshops around Chinese characters, Chinese legend stories and Chinese poems. They are a fun and interactive way to give students an insight into the multifaceted Chinese culture.

For primary schools we recently developed two new workshops: Playground games and Story Telling. Over the summer months we will delivery workshops and taster sessions at Manchester Children's Book Festival, Leyland Methodist Infant School, Northenden Community School and Bury Grammar Schools.
