Manchester's sister city link with Wuhan dates back to 1986 and is based on civic visits, educational and cultural exchange between the two. In the past 10 years, Wuhan positioned itself as a hub and megacity for Central China and its ambitious urbanisation plan received much publicity both in and outside China.
