Since 2014 we are supplying native Chinese Mandarin teachers to local schools, mainly to run afterschool clubs and Chinese language classes. Our teachers are all from Beijing Normal University and their major is in teaching mandarin as a second language. The selection process for the teachers starts with a skype interview where we chat in English and Chinese and see their teaching in a pretend classroom setting. The teachers must then complete successfully one month professional training in china assessed by Hanban. When they first arrive in the UK, they will have an official induction that includes an insight into the UK education system and school settings and observations of different teaching activities.

Once they have reached the required standard, they will begin to independently arrange cultural and language-learning activities. The schools that we work with will assign mentors for the teachers to support them during their time here. All lessons are regularly assessed and monitored as well necessary training provided to assure a continuously good service from the Confucius Institute. By adapting this approach we can proudly say that we have successfully built a teaching team of 10 teachers and aim to develop and maintain those numbers and Quality Assurance processes.
