Confucius Institute

A new home for the Institute on our 10th anniversary!

1 December 2015

To mark this milestone, the University will move the institute from its current premises in the Samuel Alexander Building.

The Institute will kick start 2016 with a busy schedule of public events, language training, conferences and performances. Starting with Chinese New Year in February, when we will work with CityCo to stage performances and deliver cultural workshops in the city centre and numerous local schools. Among a series of high profile events scheduled for 2016, we are entering our 10th year of operation.

To add to the excitement and mark this milestone, the University will move the institute from its current premises in the Samuel Alexander Building to 180 Waterloo Place, next to Manchester Museum on Oxford Road, opposite University Place.

The Institute will be housed in a four-storey historic listed building at the centre of the Manchester Corridor. Once the refurbishment is completed next summer, the building will offer ample office space for our staff and unique learning space for our students. We will be able to conduct online HSK testing in our designated testing room, in addition to dedicated one-to-one tutorial rooms and hi-spec training rooms. In the backyard, we will have a Chinese garden where our staff and students can relax.

A formal opening of the new space is schedule for the autumn with students past and present as well as staff and key supporters of the institute. We hope we will see you there.
